Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance announces Virginia as top priority state for 2020
REBA will lead a coalition to expand renewable energy access in the Commonwealth
October 24, 2019
The Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance (REBA) announced that the Commonwealth of Virginia will be a top priority state in 2020 as it seeks to expand access to renewable energy for its members. REBA will lead an advocacy campaign to expand the ability of retail customers in Virginia to use renewable energy to power their operations, reduce their carbon footprint, and green the grid for all.
REBA members represent some of the Commonwealth’s largest employers and contribute to the local economy and communities. Many of these companies and other organizations have also made public commitments to be powered by 100% renewable energy, which are ambitious in their own right, and further complicated by Virginia’s regulatory landscape. Under current law, Virginia’s large energy consumers have limited options to purchase cost-effective clean energy; the playing field is tilted toward existing utility companies, and the complex rules of engagement are coupled with a lack of transparency.
“REBA’s membership represents organizations from across the commercial and industrial sector, including major retailers, technology companies, and manufacturers, who want access to a competitive energy market,” said Miranda Ballentine, CEO of the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance. “Our goal in Virginia is to expand access to renewable energy to any organization that wants it.”
There are specific steps that Virginia can take right now to make it easier for energy customers to pursue renewable energy. REBA will lead a coalition to ensure that we are working to create change for organizations that want renewable energy and to the benefit of all Virginians.
The Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance (REBA) is an alliance of clean energy buyers, energy providers, and service providers who are unlocking the marketplace for a rapid transition to a cleaner, prosperous, zero-carbon energy future. Today, REBA’s membership of 200+ accounts for over 95% of all large renewable energy transactions. REBA aims to create innovative solutions to ensure clean energy pathways are a viable option for all energy buyers.
