Social media giant Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) is leading the 2019 ranking of the large renewable energy buyers in the US, having procured 1,546 GW last year.

This is evident from the newly released Deal Tracker by the Renewable Energy Buyers Alliance (REBA), which covers publicly announced corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs), green power purchases, green tariffs and outright project ownership in the US.

The table below shows the full Top 10.

1. Facebook 1,546 GW
2. Google 1,107 GW
3. AT&T 960 MW
4. Microsoft 624 MW
5. T-Mobile 581 MW
6. Walmart 541 MW
7. Amazon 487 MW
8. Ball Corporation 388 MW

“Well over half of all energy consumption comes from the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector, so it is increasingly important that large energy buyers are identifying opportunities to reduce emissions,” commented Miranda Ballentine, CEO of REBA.

The Alliance has set an overall goal to catalyse 60 GW of renewable energy by 2025. It notes that there is a surge of first-time buyers accounting for over 50% of transactions.
